The Island in Pigeon Forge has a free countdown at noon. Beale Street saves its fireworks for midnight—and its celebration is strictly 21 and older.
For December 31, 2026, welcoming 2027, the options range from a three-course train lunch to a hotel party with an open bar. Some cost nothing to enter. Others require a table reservation or an overnight package, and the differences matter before you book.
Details checked November 5, 2026. Prices and schedules may change; confirm availability and final charges before booking.
Memphis times are Central. All other destinations below use Eastern Time. For outdoor countdowns, dress for several hours outside and arrange parking or your ride home ahead of time.
Memphis: A Free Street Countdown on Beale
Fireworks, confetti cannons and live music fill Beale Street at midnight—and you don’t need a ticket for the street celebration.
New Year’s Eve on Beale brings performances indoors and outdoors throughout the district. You must be 21 or older and bring valid photo ID, even if you’re staying outside.
Street admission is free. The optional $150 Fast Pass waives cover charges at participating clubs and provides priority entry. If club-hopping is part of your evening, compare it with the individual venues you want to visit before buying. You don’t need the pass for the street countdown.
Food, drinks and parking cost extra. The organizer recommends arriving by 9 p.m. Central Time and encourages rideshare or public transportation because of road closures and heavy attendance.
Memphis: A Midnight Balloon Drop at The Peabody
The Peabody moves the party indoors, with live bands and DJs across its Grand Lobby, ballroom and bar spaces, plus a midnight balloon drop.
The December 31 celebration is 21+ and runs until 2 a.m. Central Time on January 1. Bring ID and a way to pay electronically: the event is cashless.
General admission tickets are listed at $65 through December 30 or $75 at the door, plus applicable fees. Admission does not guarantee a seat. If sitting together matters, compare the reserved-seating packages before choosing tickets.
Parking costs extra for general admission, and tickets are nonrefundable.
The hotel lists both 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. as start times, so confirm before you book dinner or a ride.
Chattanooga: Lunch or Dinner Aboard a Vintage Train
A three-course meal served in a historic railcar makes the train ride the occasion. Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum offers both lunch and dinner on December 31, with different prices and age policies.
Both leave Grand Junction Station, 4119 Cromwell Road, and travel through urban East Chattanooga. Expect time around the table rather than mountain scenery. Neither advertises a midnight celebration.
The Lunch Train permits all ages, but TVRM does not recommend it for children under eight because of the lengthy meal service. Children have the same menu and prices as adults; there is no announced children’s entertainment or noon countdown.
Dining tables start at $240, with the total depending on party size and seating choice. Select your group size in the lunch booking calendar to see your price.
TVRM lists the lunch at 11:30 a.m.–1:45 p.m. Eastern Time, so confirm your departure when booking, then allow about 30 minutes for arrival and boarding.
The Dinner Train is for ages 10 and older. Its listed schedule is 6–8 p.m. Eastern Time, although the page also describes a two-to-three-hour experience. Confirm the return before planning anything afterward.
Published standard dining-table prices are:
| Guests | Table price | Cost per person |
|---|---|---|
| One | $280 | $280 |
| Two | $280 | $140 |
| Three | $375 | $125 |
| Four | $450 | $112.50 |
These figures are before additional charges. The three-course dinner is included; wine and champagne cost extra. A solo diner pays the same table price as a couple.
For both trains, choose the same seating type if your group wants to ride together: Dining Car and Pullman tables are in separate railcars.
Wheelchair access inside the historic railcars is unavailable. Guests must be able to board independently and occupy a standard seat. Discuss steps and onboard restroom access with TVRM before reserving if those could affect your visit.

Chattanooga: A Roaring Twenties Party at The Read House
An open bar, live music and a room upstairs turn The Read House’s party into an overnight celebration.
The 21+ Roaring 20s Party Package includes a hotel stay and admission for two adults, with Gwen Hughes and the Retro Kats, heavy hors d’oeuvres, dessert and coffee, late snacks and a midnight champagne toast. Valid ID is required.
Read the package names carefully: the Roaring 20s Party Package includes party admission; the New Year’s Eve Getaway does not. The latter offers a stay and champagne delivered to your room.
Package prices vary, and taxes and gratuities are not included. A $200 nonrefundable deposit is due at booking. The remaining balance is charged December 27 and becomes nonrefundable; cancel by December 26 to avoid the full charge. The deposit remains nonrefundable.
Before reserving the party package, confirm party hours, the full total and whether parking is included.
Knoxville: A Free Midnight Ball Drop at the Sunsphere
Knoxville pairs a free public ball drop with a family-friendly, alcohol-free evening at World’s Fair Park.
At New Year’s Eve at the Sunsphere, a silent disco and live music from FOURKAST begin at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. The band plays until 11:55 p.m., followed by the midnight ball drop.
Food trucks sell refreshments, but admission and activities are free. City-owned garages, including Locust Street, Market Square and 11th Street, are advertised as free all day, helping keep the outing affordable.
The event runs rain or shine. Chairs are welcome; tents and canopies are not.
Gatlinburg: A Space Needle Ball Drop and Fireworks
Gatlinburg puts a tower ball drop, drones and fireworks into the final minutes of the year.
The free, family-friendly downtown celebration at the Space Needle begins at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The announced program includes live music, a drone show around 11:50 p.m., and the midnight ball drop and fireworks.
Public admission is free; parking, food and paid attractions are separate expenses. The organizer advises arriving early to secure parking and a viewing spot, so treat 9:30 p.m. as the start of the celebration rather than your arrival time in town.
If you’re staying longer, our guide to Christmas light displays in Tennessee includes Gatlinburg’s Winter Magic lights for another evening in town.

Pigeon Forge: Choose Noon or Midnight at The Island
The Island gives younger children a real countdown twelve hours before midnight.
Its Noon Year’s Eve celebration starts with a free Sol Driven Train concert at 11 a.m. Eastern Time, followed by a noon countdown near the stage with festive effects.
You can enjoy the concert and countdown, then leave the evening open.
For midnight celebrants, Sol Driven Train plays at 8:30 p.m., followed by headliner Hannah Harper and midnight fireworks. Check the final schedule for Harper’s set time before you go.
General admission, general concert viewing and parking are free. Rides and food cost extra, so decide whether those belong in your budget before arriving.
Optional VIP tickets are listed at $199 per person for stage-front viewing or $299 with a meet-and-greet, before any applicable additional charges. Both are upgrades to the free general concert.
Lenoir City: A Gala With Reserved-Table Savings
Book for a group of ten, and the early reserved-table price saves $100 compared with ten individual tickets.
The 2027 New Year’s Gala at The Venue at Lenoir City celebrates the event space’s tenth anniversary with live music from Liquid Velvet. It runs 7:30 p.m.–1 a.m. Eastern Time, beginning December 31, 2026, and ending January 1.
Early tickets cost $100 individually or $900 for a reserved table of ten through December 1. Starting December 2, prices rise to $125 and $1,125.
The early table works out to $90 per person, compared with $100 for individual admission. Individual ticket holders use available seats at non-reserved tables, so buying separately may mean your group cannot sit together.
Before buying, call The Venue at 865-986-8340 to ask whether an age restriction applies and what food and drinks the ticket includes.
My Picks
Best with little kids: The Island’s Noon Year’s Eve. A real countdown, and everyone’s home before naptime.
Best free midnight: Knoxville’s Sunsphere. Free admission, free downtown parking, and no alcohol.
Best grown-up night out: Beale Street. Free to walk in, and the fireworks are worth staying up for.
Best for a quiet celebration: The TVRM dinner train. Three courses and you’re back before the late-night crowds.
